Joseph Paul Harakal, 67, of San Jose, Calif., entered into eternal rest on June 3, 2011, in the Sunnyvale Health Center, Sunnyvale, Calif., after a brave battle with sinus cancer.

He spent most of his career in the computer/telecommunications industry, having last worked as an academic manager for five years at the San Jose Job Corp, where he enjoyed helping students get their GED.
Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Joseph and Carrie Harakal.
He was a 1961 graduate of the former Summit Hill High School and went on to attain a master's degree in computer science from Texas A&M University.
Joe loved to sing in both the church and community choir. He also played the accordion. He brought his joy of life with his kind, gentle spirit to everyone he come in contact with. He was someone you could count on to offer a smile and kind words of encouragement.
Surviving are a son, Joseph S., and his wife, Carolyn, of Portland, Ore.; a daughter Lori of Sedona, Ariz.; a brother Randall of Kailua, Hawaii; two sisters, Donna, wife of Paul Donahue of Orwigsburg, and Tami McHugh of Tamaqua; two grandsons, Paul Zenovitch and Niklaus Harakal; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Brian; and two sisters, Mary Ann and Gay Ann.
Service: Graveside memorial service noon Monday, Aug. 22, St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, White Bear, with John Anthony Hutta officiating. The Sverchek-Blazosky Funeral Home, Lansford, is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
