William H. Baumgartner, 84, of Upper Middlecreek Road, Jonas, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Dec. 9, at home. He was the loving husband of Rena (Kresge) Baumgartner. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on July 23.
William was born in Kunkletown, Pa. on Aug. 29, 1927 and was the son of the late William and Vandalia (Kibler) Baumgartner.
William was the owner/operator of the Baumgartner's Pocono Evergreen farms and was in farming all his life. Bill also owned a school bus and drove for Pleasant Valley School District in Brodheadsville.
William graduated from Pennsylvania State University in State College with a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture.
He was appointed by President Clinton as the Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency in Harrisburg. He also was a District Director for the United States Department of Agriculture.
He was a member of the Effort United Methodist Church.
Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing and outdoor activities. He loved dogs and especially loved man's best friends Oreo and Scooby.
He was a member of the Grundsow Lodsch Nummer Tzae. and the Free and Accepted Masons Barger Lodge 325 in Stroudsburg.
We have been blessed with the presence of Bill in our lives and he will be deeply missed by his loving wife Rena; his children: Bryan Baumgartner and his wife Sherry of Kunkletown and Robin Bok and her husband Ron of Effort. He was a loving and gentle grandfather to his three grandchildren who he loved spending time with: Bryan Baumgartner, Matthew Baumgartner and Brandyn Bok. Bill is also survived by nieces, nephews and his extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Ralph and Fred Baumgartner, Emily Bennet, Alice Altemose, Miriam Altemose and Joyce Schaffer.
Whenever we spend time fulfilling our own ultimate dreams, or find peace in the outdoor, we will be reminded in many ways, Bill is still near us.
Services: Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Inc., Rt. 209, Gilbert, with the Rev. Robin Fisher officiating.
Family and friends are welcome to attend the viewing on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 2 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Additional viewing will be held on Monday, Dec. 12, from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Middlecreek Cemetery, Kunkletown, Pa. The Donald N.
