Mrs. E. Maxine Jeffries died in her 94th year on Monday, Sept. 24, in the home of her daughter in Mohnton, Pa.

Maxine graduated from Wooster High School, Ohio, in 1936, and attended Wooster Business College. She was employed at Wooster Products, Rubbermaid Corporation and the Atlas Powder Company in Ravenna, Ohio.Maxine assisted her late husband, Philip J. Jeffries Sr., in operating funeral homes in Coaldale and Weatherly.
- She was born to Mary Eleanor (Madden) and Charley M. Hardesty in Morocco, Ind.
She taught Sunday school at the First Congregational Church, Coaldale, and the Centenary United Methodist Church and Salem U.C.C., Weatherly.
She was initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 270, Wooster, and was Past Matron of the Mayflower Chapter No. 107, Hazleton. She had numerous Pa. Grand Chapter appointments, including District Deputy Grand Matron for Pa. District 21 B and Grand Representative to Connecticut.
She was a member of the Past Matron's Assoc. of the Lehigh Valley and became an OES Golden Member in 1995. She travelled widely with her husband, who served as Worthy Grand Patron for the State of Pa. in 1985. She was Mother Advisor to Assembly No. 134, International of Order of the Rainbow for Girls, and Grand Deputy of Rainbow District No. 35.
She and her husband were awarded the Rainbow Grand Cross of Color in 1972. She was a past president of the High Point Women's Club of Delray Beach, Fla., and also belonged to the Delray Beach Garden Club and the Weatherly Flower Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, James, Thomas and Robert Hardesty; and a sister, Frances Anderson.
Surviving are three sons, Philip J., and his wife, Margaret, and Charley H., and his wife, Candy, both of Weatherly, and Walter J., and his wife, Carol, of Allentown; a daughter, Dr. Janet M. Slovak, wife of Dr. Charles F. Weyl; nine grandchildren, Everett, Jocelyn, Vaughn and Carson Slovak, John Jeffries, Lisa Winheld, Amy Lintz and Kent and Eric Jeffries; four stepgrandchildren, Nathan, Anna, Gideon and Emily Weyl; and eight great-grandchildren, Olivia Winheld, Ian and Annalisa Jeffries, Kreider and Katelyn Lintz, Benjamin Jeffries and Sylas and Jackson Slovak; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, Weatherly. Private interment, Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Call 6-8 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
