Michael Frank Gerber Sr., 59, of South Street, Jim Thorpe, died Saturday, Nov. 10, in his home. He was the husband of Marian Helen (Stianche) Gerber. They celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on Sept. 21.|
He worked for 37 years for the Lehigh Valley Railroad, Conrail and the Norfolk Southern Railroad.
Born in Hazleton, he was a son of the late Robert F. Gerber Sr. and Rosemary (Friel) Gerber.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.
A 1971 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School, he was inducted into the Jim Thorpe Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1967 championshhip football team and the 1970 championship wrestling team.
Gerber was a member of the Fairview Hose Co. Social Hall, Mauch Chunk Rod and Gun Club and the Diligent Fire Co., all of Jim Thorpe; the Lehighton American Legion; and the Penn Forest Country Club.
He loved hunting, Notre Dame football, the N.Y. Yankees and the Miami Dolphins.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter, Keri L., wife of Floyd Brown of Lehighton; a son, Michael F. Jr. of Jim Thorpe, and a sister, Donna Marie, wife of Joe Nilon, both of Jim Thorpe; a brother, Robert F. Jr. in California; two granddaughters, Madison and Gabriella; and his pets, Rex and Buck.
Service: Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe; Mass of the Christian Burial 11 a.m., St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe, with the Rev. Francis J. Baransky officiating.
