Norman R. Greene Jr. Obituary
Norman Robert Greene Jr., "The man with the railroad hat," 81, of Lehighton, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, in his home. He was the husband of Shirley Ann (Rehrig) Greene. They would have been married for 58 years on Dec. 11.
He worked for 39-1/2 years for the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation.
Born in Weissport, he was a son of the late Norman Sr. and Florence (Andreas) Greene.He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, having served as a paratrooper in the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team from 1951-53.
He was a member of American Legion Post 314, Lehighton, the Lehighton Fire Co. No. 1, the Lehigh River Stock Association and the Miller-Keystone Blood Center, where he received a "Certificate of Appreciation" for his continued support. He donated a total of 88 gallons of blood.
Greene loved hunting, fishing, the Phillies and the Eagles.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Norman III, and his wife, Tracy (Schlappe), and a daughter Kim, wife of Harold Henry, both of Lehighton; five grandchildren, Emily, Heidi, Linsey and Norman Greene IV and Timothy Knopf, and his wife, Katie (Deer); three great-grandchildren, Alex, Lucas and Trent Knopf; two sisters, Carol Mertz and Florence Babinchak; and three brothers, Carl, and his wife, Donna, Lester, and his wife, Jennie, and Paul, and his wife, Phyllis.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Genevieve, Nannette, Pauline and Pearl; and two brothers, Robert and William.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, Schaeffer Funeral Home, Third and Alum streets, Lehighton, with the Rev. Anthony Pagotto officiating. Interment with military honors, Lehighton Cemetery. Call 9-11 a.m. Friday.
