Nicholas J. "Nicky" Hametz, of Edinboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, in his home, surrounded by family. |
He lived in Weatherly until November, 2011, when he and his mother relocated to Edinboro to live with his brother and sister-in-law.His favorite pastime was making the people he encountered happy.
- Born in Hazleton, he was a son of Patricia (Burke) Hametz and the late Thomas Hametz.
He loved to work and was employed at the Carbon County Training Center, Beaver Meadows, for most of his adult life, and recently worked at the Girard Workshop.
In 2003, he received the achievement award from the Pennsylvania Industries for the Blind and Handicapped, in recognition of his outstanding achievement and exceptional character and work ethic.
He enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics for many years and loved attending concerts and musical shows with his parents and family.
He was a volunteer at the Eckley Miners Village and was loved by the staff there.
A passionate sports fan, he rooted for the Eagles, Phillies and Penn State. He was an avid bowler and music aficionado, and, to him, Elvis was number one.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a sister Lisbeth of Hazleton; a brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Annie Hametz of Edinboro; along with his nieces, Katie (Rob children, Kendall and Channing) , Jessie (Rick) and Lauren; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Service: Funeral service and interment 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Beaver Meadows. Arrangements by Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie St., Edinboro.
