Daniel T. Novitsky Obituary
Daniel T. Novitsky, 90, of Weatherly, died Thursday, Dec. 20, in the Heritage Hills Senior Community, Weatherly.
He was the husband of the late Anna (Brazzo) Novit-sky, who died Dec. 24, 2007.
They had been married for 61 years.He was a purchasing manager and treasurer of the Weatherly Foundry and Manufacturing Co. until retiring.
Born in Hazleton, he was a son of the late Peter and Anna (Jackles) Novitsky.
He volunteered for his parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Weatherly, the United Way, the Weatherly Band Parents and several athletic groups. He enjoyed working in the garden.
A 1938 graduate of Hazleton High School, he served meritoriously in the Army during World War II. Departing Boston, Mass., in 1944, to Liverpool, UK, as a member of the 30th Infantry Division, 19th Field Artillery Battalion, he fought through France and Belgium, serving in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.
He calculated artillery targets for the 106mm Howitzers as part of the Omaha Beach Invasion. Awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with Five Bronze Stars, he returned home in August, 1945, on the Queen Mary.
Surviving are three daughters, Anita L., wife of William McCartney of Jim Thorpe, Arlene, wife of Russell Swantko of Drums, and Alice, wife of William Houk of William of Gaithersburg, Md.; a son David, and his wife, Robin, of Weatherly; a sister, Martha Kuntz of Hazleton; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Learn) Andes, Pamela (Learn) Schleicher, Vanessa (Learn) List, Amy (Swantko) Chumley, Jessica Swantko, Laura and Ryan Novitsky and Brian and Stephanie Houk; six great-grandchildren, Rebecca Halcisak, Eli, Joshua and Jacob Suveg and Emily and Madelyn List; and a great-great-grandchild, Austin Suveg.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Weatherly, with the Rev. Floyd Caesar officiating. Interment with military honors, St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery, Weatherly. Arrangements by Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, 211 First St., Weatherly.
