Peter J. Stricek, 89, of 31 W. High St., Coaldale, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 10, in the Hometown Nursing Center, Hometown. He was the husband of the late Rose (Jabbo) Stricek.|
He was an electrician for the former Bethlehem Mines, Coaldale and Tamaqua, and also owned and operated the former Valley Electronics of Lansford, a TV sales and repair business.
He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tamaqua, and previously was a longtime and devoted member of the former SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Coaldale.Stricek was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres aboard two different destroyers.
- Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late Peter and Mary (Uhri-nek) Stricek.
He was a member of the Lions Club, Rod and Gun Club and American Legion, all of Coaldale, and the Lansford AMVETS Post.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.
Surviving are a son Michael, and his wife, Diane, of Binghamton, N.Y.; a daughter, Cynthia Boris, and her fiancé, Joseph Manjack, of Hometown; two sisters, Victoria Poshefko of Nesquehoning and Mary Labosky of Lansford; and three grandchildren, Jason Boris and Christopher and Allison Stricek.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Matilda Dvorsky.
Service: Funeral service 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14, Gulla Funeral Home, 130 E. Ridge St., Coaldale; Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m., SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tamaqua, with the Rev. William J. Linkchorst officiating. Military graveside service, St. John Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Summit Hill, under direction of Panther Valley High School JROTC. Call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday, Gulla Funeral Home. Christian vigil service Wednesday evening. Contributions in his name may be made to the Hometown Nursing Center or SS.
