James W. McFarland Obituary
James W. McFarland, 73, of 124 Vixen Drive, Kresgeville, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 14, in the Blue Mountain Health System's Palmerton Campus, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the husband of Dolores P. (Uhler) McFarland. They were married for 31 years.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late John and Helen (Walck) McFarland.He had a long and successful career in the U.S. Army, retiring after 21 years as a First Sergeant. During his career, he served at many locations, including Germany, Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam, as an Ammunition Foreman. He was a member of the 101st Airborne.
After retiring from the Army, he came back home and settled in the Kresgeville area. He then went to work for the U.S. States Postal Service, Allentown, and retired there in 2000.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
McFarland was a member of the Lehighton American Legion Post and the Palmerton Rod and Gun Club.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Rex, and his wife, Wanda, of Coaldale, and John of Chico, Calif.; a daughter Diane, wife of Anthony Gabrielle of Freeland; a stepson, George Reecek IV of Bethlehem; three grandchildren, Dezirae McFarland and Anthony II and Zachery Gabrielle; and three stepgrandchildren, George V., Nicholas and Zachery Reecek.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Fourth and Iron streets, Lehighton, with the Rev. Dennis Schappell officiating. Military graveside service, Gnaden Huetten Cemetery, Lehighton, under direction of Lehighton Area United Veterans Organization. Call 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday. Arrangements by Bruce A. Nalesnik Funeral Home, 57 W. Center St., Nesquehoning.
