Charles F. Gilbert, 75, of 1018 North St., Jim Thorpe, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 16, in the Blue Mountain Health System's Gnaden Huetten Campus, Lehighton. He was the husband of Janet R. (Kishbaugh) Gilbert. They were married for 52 years.
Born in Jim Thorpe, he was a son of the late Frank and Dorothea (Bieneman) Gilbert.
He retired from the U.S. Navy, where he served as a yeoman and retired as a chief petty officer after 24 years of service. Over that span, he served on many ships and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
After his discharge, he returned to his hometown of Jim Thorpe. Over the years, he worked for the Ametek Corporation, Nesquehoning, the former IDC trucking, Lehighton, and lastly for the Carbon County Community Transit, Nesquehoning, before retiring.
He was a member of Meed's United Methodist Church, Nesquehoning, where he was very active in its activities, including singing in the choir and serving as a trustee for many years.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Charles Jr., and his wife, Rebecca, of Shavertown, and James, and his wife, Tammy, of Lansford; a daughter Tara, wife of Ben Cellini of Nesquehoning; a brother David, and his wife, Deanie, of Summit Hill; three sisters, Eleanor of Weatherwood, Weatherly, Jane Eckert of Lehighton and Debbie, wife of Leon Wray of Harrisburg; and seven grandchildren, Daniel and Matthew Gilbert, James McElmoyle, Thomas and Stephen Romanchik and Giavanna and Alivia Cellini.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothea Roos; and a great-grandson, Rowan McElmoyle.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, Bruce A. Nalesnik Funeral Home, 57 W. Center St., Nesquehoning, with the Rev. Michael S. Netzik officiating. Military graveside service, Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown, under direction of Jim Thorpe American Legion Post 304. Call 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 10-11 a.m. Thursday.
