Mrs. Effie E. Whildin|
Mrs. Effie E. Whildin, 89, of Weatherly, formerly of Lansford, died Saturday, Aug. 24, in Weatherly. She was the widow of William R. Whildin, who died in 1987.
She worked as an R.N. at the Chestnut Hill Hospital before marrying and raising her family.
Born in Hazleton, she was a daughter of the late William and Effie (Coxe) Henry.
She was a graduate of the former Summit Hill High School and a member of Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, Summit Hill.
Effie was active in the auxiliary of the American Fire Co. No. 1, Lansford, and the Panther Valley Golden Agers.
Surviving are a daughter Sally, wife of John "Mitch" Mitchell of Weatherly; two sons, William H., and his wife, Lynne, of Centreville, Va., and Herb H., and his wife, Suzanne, of Coaldale; two sisters, Doris Koons and Shirley Doere; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Sue Whildin of Tamaqua.
She was also preceded in death by a son Evan, who died in 2000.
Service: Private arrangements are being handled by Holmes-Griffiths Funeral Home, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua. Interment, Grand Army Cemetery, Summit Hill.
