Russ was an incredible instructor at SLU. He was quiet and full of wisdom. He once told us the story of doing field work way up in Ontario. Three people guided for 6 weeks by topo sheets and aerial photos. One (not Russ) started to go loony when they were a little lost. Russ and second person sent the loony one up a tree and asked him to wave his arms while they looked at that PHOTO to see if they could figure out where they were....

It is May 6th 2017 and I have just learned of the sad death of a very close friend of post graduate university years in Kingston Ontario Canada. Russell Jacoby and I spent numerous times together professionally and socially as very good mates while we were both at Queens University together undertaking PhD studies DURING THE 1960s. Russell was a great mate and all enjoyed his wonderful sense of humour.During those days we shared similar interests including sub standard ice hockey playing , music. Although our careers caused us to go separate ways, Russell was very often in my mind. He was a very good geologist and a very good friend and I am very much saddened to hear of his passing in 2016. If you are reading this mate in your new life, Goodbye and have a good one.
