Great memories of Dave. He was our student teacher in high school and was just a year older than us. He had been in theater productions with us just years before and we all thought it was so special to have him teaching us. I remember him and his little Crosley car. Some boys put it up on the school steps once as a prank. It is a sad to realize he's gone. He will surely live on in the memories of those who he greatly influenced and made better by his presence in this world.

Mr. Ballard left an impression on so many of the students he taught. He had one of the best charismatic & witty personalities I've ever come across. May he rest in peace! My condolences to his loved ones.

Barb and Chris, my heart broke when I heard about David. I have such fond memories of your family, as well as of all your amazing contributions to Central. I can still vividly recall David directing our Late Primary production of A Charlie Brown Christmas, as well as his fantastic MCing at Central Sensations! He, as well as you both, truly left a mark on Central and on me personally. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Much love to both of you.

Sorry to the family and friends for your loss. I was a Public Speaking student at Miami University Middletown, with Professor Ballard being one of my most memorable instructors. Even though it was a sad story of how his mother passed away from consuming bad mayonnaise, his story struck a chord with many students to not fear public speaking and turned our lives completely around.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Ballard family . I have known Mr Ballard for over fifty years, going back to the days of summer supervised play at Sunset Park, watching him play a villian in "Lily the felon's daughter" for Middletown Actors Playhouse( on the lawn in front of Old South School, and at Middletown High School, as well as Miami Middletown. He was a very special man in the community, especially in the various theatre groups. God bless you all. Lee Ann

David will truly be missed by so many people. I had two classes with David nearly 20 years ago...and both of my children, Gabe and Jess, and my nephew, Noah, also had Speech class with him. We all thought he was such a wonderful teacher and special person. Our deepest sympathy goes to Chris, who I worked with for several years, and the rest of David's family. He is now reunited with his parents and beloved dogs. Farewell, David!

Dear Barb, David, Kenny, Christopher and family. My memories as you know are dear. David, my mother and I worked together in the early sixties. He did his student teaching at Roosevelt Junior High. He then began his teaching career at Middletown High School where I took everyone of his classes. When he went to MUM, I went to MUM. David was there when I married Jim. David and Jim were the greatest of friends. Jim was David's best man when he married Barb. While we weren't always together. Our thoughts were always with each of us and the highs and lows of our life. I will miss his laugh and bright smile. He left a profound legacy of love of family, friends and students. We have lost a great man, but oh what sweet, sweet memories we will always carry. Love to you all!

I remember David growing up as a child. We we cousins and our families always got together. I always looked up to David because he was older and so smart. I remember David playing with Freddie since they were close in age. Bob and my Brother Tom would play together who were also the same age andJudy and I were close. I really didn't feel close to David until later in life but I am glad I got the chance to know him and Barbara and Christopher better. I would have loved to have known his other sons too. I was proud of David and everything he accomplished. He will be missed by many ,but wouldn't be suffering any. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

To the Ballard family, I am sorry for your loss. I first met David only months after leaving the military. His public speaking class was my first class at Miami University. During those few weeks he offered advice, insight, and wisdom that greatly helped me begin what was to be a life long and difficult transisition from the military to civilian life. I am thankful I was able to visit him at his office in 2009 and let him know how much he affected my life in a very positive way.

A true champion of student advocacy during his time at MUM. It was a distinct pleasure to have been under his tutelage. If you were to look up the word "educator" in the dictionary, you would find a picture of Mr. Ballard. May he rest in peace.
