News Death Notice

BALLARD, David L. 73, of Middletown, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at The Woodlands of Middletown. He was born in Middletown on June 22, 1939 to parents Morris and Virginia (Davidson) Ballard. A 1957 graduate of Middletown High School, David received B.A. and M.A. degrees in speech communication and theatre from Miami University. He taught at Miami University Middletown when the campus opened in 1966 and was the last of the original founding faculty group to retire. He estimated that he taught more than 10,000 students in his classes over the years at Miami Middletown. David was a member and past president of the Middletown City Schools Board of Education and the founding director of the Campus Community Players, directing numerous plays for community and campus groups. David was also was an active member of Lincoln Lodge F. & A.M. #693, Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati, Knights Templar, and Syrian Temple AAONMS of Cincinnati. Mr. Ballard is survived by his wife, Barbara (Stansbury) Ballard; sons, David E. (Jeanne) Ballard, Kenny M. (Lavern) Ballard & Christopher E. Ballard; brother, Robert Ballard; sister, Judi (Butch) Hill; aunt, Midge McMullen and grandchildren, Jack, Jessica, Logan & Zach Ballard. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held Wednesday, May 29 at 5:30 pm at The Campus Community Center, 142 Johnston Hall, Miami University Middletown.
