News Death Notice

SOUTHER, Orin A. "Jack" father, educator, long time coach at Lee University, WWII veteran and mentor to many was born June 15, 1926, and passed away April 29, 2013, at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Jack is survived by his daughters Vikki Simmons (JD), Shauna Hardin (Allan) and his son Kevin Souther, grandchildren Sherra Kriston (Jim), Andrea Kramer (Ryan), Brent Hardin (Megan) and Jessica Hunter (Thomas) and 8 great grandchildren (plus twins on the way). A native of Southern Ohio and graduate of Wilmington College and Xavier University, he retired from Warren County Public Schools as County Superintendant in the early 80's. He then started his long time tenure as coach at Lee University coaching Women's Basketball, Women's Softball and Men's Golf. He retired from Lee University in 2012 after 30 years of service. Jack was a decorated WWII veteran and served in the US Army in the Philippines and was a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame and the Lee University Sports of Hall of Fame. There will be a Memorial Service at the Paul Dana Walker Arena on Lee University Campus May 5, 2013 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers a scholarship fund will be set up at Lee University.
