News Death Notice

HARPE, Calvin Lee 64, of Middletown, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013, at West Chester Hospital from complications following a fall in May 2013 that left him paralyzed. He was born in Middletown on June 27, 1949 to parents Calvin T. and Thelma (Hoppe) Harpe and remained a lifelong resident of Middletown. Calvin served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after spending time in Oklahoma and Thailand. He worked at AK Steel for 32 years, retiring in 2000. Calvin was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Browns fan. He coached youth soccer and baseball. He loved bragging about his grandchildren and cheering them on The Lady Hornets soccer team. He enjoyed traveling, learning new things on his computer and warning everyone about the upcoming weather. Mr. Harpe is survived by his wife of 10 years, Liliya, who did not leave his side during his illness; daughter, Kim Hill & husband David; son, Calvin "Terry" Harpe (Cindy White); grandchildren, Chelsea Hill, Sarah Hill, Carly Shafer and Tristan Kelley; brother, Thomas Harpe; sister, Marie Khalid; and many close old & new friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the DAV Chapter #15 Honor Guard.
