Carey Lee JACOBS

Obituary Condolences

News Death Notice

JACOBS, Carey Lee "Jake" went to heaven on October 21, 2013 due to complications from Huntington's Disease. Born August 23, 1947, to Carey and Lena Jacobs, he was a lifelong Oxford resident. A Talawanda High School graduate, Carey worked for the City of Oxford until his retirement several years ago. He served his fellow-citizens for many years as a volunteer with the Oxford Fire Department and Life Squad. Known as a "Renaissance Man", Carey had many diverse talents. American history, woodworking, music, and travel were just a few of his interests. Carey's true passions were his faith and his family. He leaves to mourn him his wife of 45 years, Mary (Rogers) and his four children: Carey Michael (Melissa), Oldenburg, Indiana; Melissa Patrick (Scott), Hamilton; Sarah Burdette (David), Oxford; and Rebecca Irwin (Kevin), Amelia. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren: Nick, Dave, Kayla, Mike, Daniel, Katrina, Benjamin, and Isabell. In addition he leaves sisters Carol Schwegman, Hamilton; and Bonnie Van Osdol (Ron), Georgia; sister-in-law Martha Singleton (Dan), North Carolina; brother-in-law Matt Ziegler, Hamilton; nieces and nephews and many dear friends. The family thanks the staff of Golden Years Nursing Home for their compassionate and conscientious care during Carey's brief time there. Sincere appreciation to all of the Huntington's Disease support group who have helped us walk this difficult path. Visitation was held Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at Ogle & Paul R. Young Funeral Home, Oxford. The funeral service was held on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Oxford Bible Fellowship followed by burial at Oxford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, Ohio Valley Chapter, 3537 Epley Lane, Cincinnati, Ohio 45247 (www.hdsa.org/ohvch) or Oxford Bible Fellowship, 800 South Maple Street, Oxford, Ohio 45056 (www.obf.org).
