News Death Notice

LALK, Joanne Renee known as Josie to her friends, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the U.C. Hospital. Joanne was a loving mother, an enthusiastic and devoted teacher and an amazing friend to many. Joanne was born in Jellico, TN on July 24, 1977. She spent her early years in Liberty, IN before moving to Oxford, OH. She was a graduate of Miami University and had a passion for education and literacy. Joanne was a beloved teacher at Tallawanda High School. She loved many things in life; laying on the beach with her sunglasses with a Diet Coke in her hand, walking down the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, teaching her students, having fun with her friends, but most of all she loved being a mother. Her beautiful children Haley Lalk Hurst (16) and Van William Evers (5) were her greatest joy in life and her love and devotion to them was unconditional. Although she was only 36, Joanne had a positive impact on so many lives. Joanne's heart had no boundaries. She instilled a sense of courage and strength to those who struggled in life, especially her students. She was always there for her friends and would be there to comfort and support them when they were in need. Joanne had the uncanny ability to find humor and brighten your day no matter the circumstances. Her smile and infectious laugh would bring the room to life. She will forever be in our hearts. Joanne's survivors include her parents William and Peggy Lalk, her sisters Jeri and Jessi Lalk, her two children Haley Lalk Hurst and Van William Evers. In addition to a huge extended family full of aunts, uncles and cousins, she is also survived by her lifelong friends that became part of her family, Kristi Cox, Rodger and Lynn Matre, Amanda Poston, Bucky Johnson and John Monhollen. Visitation, celebrating the memory of Joanne, was held Tuesday, November 5th at Ogle & Paul R Young Funeral Home in Oxford, OH . A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
