Margaret Fowler

Under the deepest blue azure sky, Margaret Fowler Longthorne, December 13, 1927 - May 23, 2015, left this world to begin her next adventure. A longtime resident of Ottawa Hills, a graduate of Ottawa Hills High School, and Michigan State University, she raised six children in the village along with two nieces.

As a young adult, she served on various civic committees and as a community minded volunteer. She was a docent at the Toledo Museum of Art, president of Toledo Day Nursery Auxiliary, president and board member of Toledo Opera Association Auxiliary, board member of Toledo Hospital Auxiliary and served on various Ottawa Hills and Gesu school committees including the PTA and MSG.

She loved entertaining, cooking, skiing, sewing, and quilting. In fact, she donated a number of quilts to Habitat for Humanity and made lap quilts for residents in various area nursing homes.

In the late 70s, she went back Michigan State to obtain her bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture.

Following college, she worked for five years at a Detroit engineering firm. Her next adventure was in the role of house director at Michigan's Kappa Alpha Theta sorority in Ann Arbor. She later moved back to Toledo and enjoyed playing bridge, attending church, traveling (usually while driving too fast), and gardening.

Family was always a joy and a priority and the memory of our time spent together will live on in our hearts. She loved being with her children and grandchildren and she blessed us with her bright eyes and ready smile.

Survivors are her children, John (Delia) Longthorne, Dave Longthorne, Meg (Pete) Fairbairn, Ned (Julia) Longthorne, Ginna (Jeff) Jarrett, and Matt (Nora) Longthorne; grandchildren, Ross (Kelly), Laura, Mariah, Liam, A.J., Will, and Elizabeth Longthorne, Amanda Fairbairn, and Luke Nemec. Also surviving are special nieces, Karen Lucas and Marsha Juday, along with many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are private. All donations should be made to Sunset Retirement Communities, Gesu Roman Catholic Parish, or a charity of one's choice.
