HAVENS
Nathan Beau
Nathan Beau Havens, 42, beloved son of James and Karen Havens of Woodville, Ohio and brother of Amy S. Havens of Ocean City, New Jersey, died unexpectedly of natural causes on June 21, 2013, in Brunswick, Georgia.
Beau was born August 27, 1970 in Toledo and attended Harvard Elementary School before moving to Woodville in 1978. A superbly graceful and gifted athlete, he excelled especially in basketball and track at Woodmore schools and later Oak Harbor High School, from which he graduated in 1988. He led Oak Harbor's basketball team to its first SBC Conference championship in 1987, and the 4 X 800 track team to Oak Harbor's first state track championship in 1988. He attended Ohio State University and Lincoln Electric Welding School, held a variety of jobs in construction and was an excellent house painter.
Confirmed into the Woodville United Methodist Church in 1984, he had recently found a warm and welcoming church home at tiny North Brunswick Christian Church.
An auto accident in 1988, which he just barely survived, killed a friend and altered the course of his life. He began to travel, usually on foot, throughout the United States, working in Arizona, Missouri, Colorado, South Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Idaho, Texas, Tennessee, Florida and New Jersey. He married twice briefly, but mostly preferred to fight his demons alone. A keen watcher of birds and animals and the constellations under which he often slept, Beau forged a rare connection to the natural world and its creatures and conditions, requiring little and experiencing much. He was a man who lived on his own terms, not the world's.
Friends of his youth will recall how funny, bright and generous he was, how kind to small children, how attuned to the feelings of others, as well as how formidable he could be. Despite everything, those qualities and his love for his family never really left him.
A memorial service for Beau will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Woodville United Methodist Church, 210 W. First St., Woodville. His boyhood pastor, Rev. Richard Thomas will officiate and there will be opportunity for sharing reminiscences. His ashes will later be interred in a family cemetery in southern New Jersey.
Tributes to Beau can be sent to the North Brunswick Christian Church, 3131 Cypress Mill Road, Brunswick, GA 31525 or to the Georgia Sea Turtle Rescue Center at Jekyll Island Foundation, 381 Riverview Drive, Jekyll Island, GA 31527.

This was very tragic to me. I was married to Beau from 95-98. He was a troubled man but not a troubled soul. He knew Jesus and wasn't afraid to tell the world in spite of his affliction with alcoholism. I loved him deeply when nobody else understood him. He made me laugh. I will always look back at our time together with love.

We deeply regret your loss and our hearts, thoughts and hopes are with you.
We wish we knew Beau, but we did'nt. That is our great loss.
But, maybe in someway, we can know Beau through your family.
Your family has a joy for life; dedication toward adventure; love of humanity, friends and family; and the imagination of change for the better.
From now on, through your family and all of our families, especially in the rememberance of those who passed and those who continue on, we shall all remember your Beau.
Bless Beau.
