BYCZYNSKI
Donald
Donald Byczynski left this earth on August 13, 2013, after 82 wonderful years.
He left behind to cherish his love and memory his wife of 53 years, Patricia; his son, Brian Byczynski and fiancée Jennifer Baker; daughter, Kelli Byczynski Amick and her husband Doug Amick; grandsons, Grant Byczynski and Casey Amick; sisters, Delores Kreft and Delphine Byczynski, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A Toledo native, Don graduated from Macomber Vocational School in 1950 as a machinist. He went to work with his father at Champion Spark Plug until he was called to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged after "2 years, 9 months and 22 days - but who's counting," he always said. Upon discharge, Don moved back to Toledo and worked at Champion Spark Plug, then at a few different machine shops. "I also laid carpet and dug ditches --I really didn't know what I wanted to do with my life," Don joked.
He married his beautiful wife Patricia on April 30, 1960. They met dancing and danced throughout their marriage. He enjoyed spending time at their cottage, fishing and reading a good mystery novel.
Don joined the Toledo Fire Department in 1962 and served at numerous stations before retiring as Captain at 23s. He laughed that he managed to only cook one meal while on the department after which he was asked not to cook again. He enjoyed the camaraderie, humor and good cooking of the other firemen. He retired in 1988 after "paying off my daughter's college".
Don loved making people laugh and always enjoyed a good joke or one-liner. A family man at heart, he delighted in attending all of his children's sporting and musical events, and later his grandsons' events. Don cherished family vacations and spending time with friends. In his later years, he and his wife enjoyed their weekly movie and dinner night.
