Arnold W. Goldsmith, 78, formerly of Temperance, died November 4, 2012, at his home in Zephyrhills, FL, following a courageous battle with Mesothelioma.

Born December 22, 1933, to Robert and Violet Goldsmith, Arnie married the love of his life, Arla Lee Iott, on May 18, 1957. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends earlier this year.

After graduating from Bedford High School in 1952, he joined the U.S. Army and served his country in Korea. He later was employed by AP Parts for 30 years.

He volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts of America for more than two decades, and was a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. In his retirement, he continued his efforts to serve others by volunteering at Gulfside Hospice in Zephyrhills, and was active in several clubs and activities in Betmar Acres. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and wood working.

Arnie is survived by his loving family: wife, Arla; sons, Dennis (Renee), Jeffrey (Kelly), Timothy (Jana), Kevin (Shari), Mark, Shawn (Sylvia) and "adopted son #7," Todd (Allison) Mowery; mother, Violet Goldsmith Howard; brother, Philip (Lynne), and stepsister, Lois Jean (Earl) Kinney; grandchildren, Autumn (Brad) Cole, Aaron (Tara), Adam, Austin, Andy, Adrian, Amy (Kurt) Knowles, Nicholas, Brandon, Briana, Michael, Rob, Ryan and Maya; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kira, Maci, and Reilly and Emma Cole.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, his sister, Elaine Rank, and his granddaughter, Nicole.

Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI, on November 24, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Daniel Nusbaum officiating. Visitation with family begins at 10:00 a.m.

At Arnie's request, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choosing.

He will be laid to rest at Bushnell National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
