Carl F. Groth, long time resident of the Point/Shoreland Community, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013, in his residence at the age of 84. He worked for Main Auto Supply for 42 years and also owned the 4 G's Marine Service Company until spring of 2013. He was a member of Ottawa River Yacht Club since 1955, and Outings Unlimited since 1963, Yellow Dogs since 1956, V.F.W
. Post #3265 Dads, American Legion Dads, Ft Myers Beach, FL and Moose Pine Island, FL. He was named Old Man of the River in 2008, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from ORYC. Carl loved working on anything with an engine. He was also a long time member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Carl was preceded in death by parents, Frederick and Clara Groth; daughter, Kathleen Marie; grandson, Baby Danny, and brother; Robert. He is survived by loving wife of 63 years, Eilene (Houdeshell) Groth; children, James (Norma), Lawrence (Denise), Robert (Trish), Elaine (Danny) Gutierrez and Janet Wilson; sisters, Sister Mary Rose Bernard, SND, Mary Ann (Whitey) Eckert, Sister Mary Robert Clare, SND; 15 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin in the David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611 (419-726-1583) on Monday, December 16, 2013, from 3-8 p.m. ORYC Service at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 5153 N. Summit Street, Toledo, OH on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Tony Borgia officiating. Interment will be private. The family would like to thank all of the care givers from Hospice for the excellent care and compassion they gave to Carl and our family during his time with them.
