David O.

David O. Martin, 86, of Northwood, Ohio passed away November 2, 2012, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 9, 1926, to Clyde and Anna Kathryn (Gustavus) Martin. David was a 1945 graduate of Waite High School, where he was a member of the 1943 Waite Champion Football Team. He was a very proud U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Marsh where he was a plumber and pipe fitter. After the service, David worked at New York Central Railroad and retired from Jeep in 1992 where he was a diesel mechanic. His memberships include the VFW Post #2510, Paragon Lodge 788 - Mason 32nd Degree and American Legion #252 in Seminole, Florida, and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He couldn't have been more happier than when his grandson Trent helped St. Francis to their Hockey State High School Championship. David loved dancing, basketball, boxing, fishing, and watching anything racing, especially the sprint cars on the dirt track at Eldora Speedway. He loved his mustangs and especially spending time in his garage where he could work on his cars.

Surviving are his daughter, Lori Streichert (Frank Whitmer); beloved grandson, Trent Streichert; 3 nieces and 4 nephews, and best friend, Elsie. David was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clyde "Bud" Martin, and sister, Gene Rosalind Hagman.

Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road on Sunday, November 4, 2012, from 2-9 p.m with Masonic Lodge services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, November 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Scott Union Cemetery, Huron, Ohio. Expressions of sympathy in David's memory can be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Shriners.
