Donald D. KENNEY Sr.

KENNEY Donald D. Sr. Donald D. Kenney, 78, of Toledo passed away on May 29, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital with his loving and caring wife, Rose and other family members at his side. Don went through several surgeries in the past six months and put up a courageous battle. Don was born on May 31, 1933, to Margaret and Owen Kenney. He graduated from Woodward High School, where he starred in football. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Upon his return from service he worked at LOF and then joined the Toledo Fire Department, a profession he truly loved. He was a proud and professional firefighter and retired after 31 years. He had many fire-fighting stories that he loved to share with family and friends. He was a proud man who greatly loved and enjoyed "the little ones" in his life. All he could talk about in his later years were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Ballard, and brothers, Robert "Bob" and Lawrence Kenney. Don is survived by his wife, Rose; sons, Don (Cathy) Jr., Dave, Ron and Brian Kenney; step daughter, Tammy (James) Diaz; stepson, Rusty (Christine) Krotzer; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Carole McGee and Geralyn Herling. Friends may call on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 2-8 p.m. at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave. where Last Alarm services will begin at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the funeral home.
