Edward J. Parker, 86, of Oregon, OH, passed away on August 24, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. A graduate of Libbey High School, Ed served in the navy in WWII
. In 1948, he married his wartime pen pal, family friend Shirley L. Butler. The two were married for 63 years. Ed worked as a Toledo Firefighter
, retiring in 1981. He was a proud member of the American Legion and the VFW
He is survived by son, Tony (Jody) Parker; daughter, Joy Ellen Parker; grandchildren, Kelly (Michael) Hirsh, Abbey Rose, Jonathan Rose, Ashley (Derrick) Stout, Erika Parker; great-grandchildren, Riley and Easton Stout, Wilson Hirsh; sisters, Geraldine (Howard) Buck, Barbara (David) Starner, Rosemary (John) Wooddall. He was preceded in death by parents, Jesse and Marie Parker; wife, Shirley; daughter, Janice Rose; son-in-law, Wilson Rose; great-granddaughter, Emma Stout; sisters, Ruth (Elmer) Rahla, Virginia (Roy) Wiegand, Sarah (Ronald) Westfall.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
