Edwin Mikolajczyk, age 93, of Toledo, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio's Toledo facility. He was born on February 26, 1920, in Toledo, OH to Anthony and Pauline (Burzynski) Mikolajczyk. Ed was a
decorated Veteran of the U.S. Army
, having served during WWII
as a Sergeant in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and was a life-member of the VFW
Buddy Frankowski Post 5530. He was employed as a mechanic for the Lucas County Sanitary Engineers for 30 years, retiring in 1985. A longtime member of the Riverview Yacht Club, Ed was the proud owner of a 32 foot Owens Wood Plank Boat with twin V-8 327 engines, the "Chris-E". He was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church.
Ed's survivors include his sister, Rita Sido of Scottsdale, AZ; nieces, Kathy (Mike) Way, Jeri Mikolajczyk and Janet Jurkiewicz; nephews, Terry Bialecki, Thomas Ozuk, William Ozuk, James Ozuk and Richard Ozuk, and great-nephew, John (Denise) Blatchford. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Amelia Bialecki, and wife, Christine (Ozuk) Mikolajczyk.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., where members of VFW 5530 will lead a Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m., and a Scripture Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin on Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. Adalbert Church at 10:00 a.m. The Lucas County Burial Corps will conclude with a Military Committal Service in Calvary Cemetery.
