Jack H. Lawrence, age 81, of Maumee, took the train to his Heavenly home at 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born on April 3, 1932, to Jesse and Edith (Homer) Lawrence in Toledo. Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Army
, serving his country proudly for 16 months in the Korean War
. He attended the University of Toledo for 3 years. Jack worked for Conrail Railroad for 45 years, before retiring. He was the District Assistant Safety Supervisor for 2 years, the Trainmaster and Yardmaster for many years. Jack enjoyed his years of work and his 19 years of retirement. He was a 50 year member of the Masons Northern Light and 33rd degree Scottish Rite. Jack was also a member of the Zenobia Shrine, President of the Temple Guard for 7 years, American Legion Conn Weissenberger Post #587, the Maumee Elks for 25 years and Zion United Methodist Church for 50 years. He loved to cook and bake, especially cookies. Jack enjoyed traveling, fishing and golfing for many years. He loved nothing more than the time spent with his grandsons and great-grandson. Jack lived a full and wonderful life and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jenny Mae Lawrence, Mary Greenwood, Martha Collins and Thelma MacLeod. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donna Lawrence; sons, Jeff and Greg (Tamara); grandsons, Chad, Tyler and Brent; great-grandson, Max; sister, Sarah Freeman; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church, 2600 Copland Blvd., Toledo, OH 43614. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
