James R. Watkins, age 68, of the Point/Shoreland Community passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013. Jim was born on March 16, 1945, in Youngstown, Ohio. He was raised in Canfield, OH and graduated from Canfield High School in 1963, where he earned varsity letters in both track and football. Jim attended Ohio University in Athens, OH, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1968. He then entered the U. S. Army, and served in Vietnam. Jim was the proud recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Bronze Star. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity, an Ohio University Alumni Association member, a supporter of St. Ursula and St. Francis de Sales High Schools, and V.F.W. Post # 3265. Jim was a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed Genealogy. His best times however were enjoying time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James P. Watkins, and wife, Janet (Welter) Watkins (1996). Left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Rebecca (Jesse) Watkins Pettit, James W. (Lindsey) Watkins; grandchildren, London and Cole Pettit; mother, Jayne Watkins and brother, William (Chris) Watkins, along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin in the David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit Street, (419.726. 1583) on Monday, October 7, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at 10am with Fr. Marty Lucas officiating. Interment will be in Toledo Memorial Park. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in Jim's memory are asked to consider Wounded Warrior Project,
