Judith Monroe

Judith Mae (Pope)

Judith Mae (Pope) Monroe passed peacefully into God's eternal care on Saturday, August 17, 2013, after a short but intense battle with colon cancer.

Judy was born to George

Altona and Elisabeth Jane Pope on April 7, 1939. The eldest of five siblings, Judy spent her youth in Skokie, IL and later moved to Delaware, OH, graduating from Willis High School in 1957. Judy enjoyed music and dancing and appeared with friends on TV's "American Bandstand" as a teen. She was known for faithfully keeping in touch with friends and family with regular Christmas and birthday cards, and sharing her plethora of photos and family records. Many have returned the favor during her illness, and made her final journey more sweet as a result.

Judy earned a BS in Social Work from The Ohio State University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan in 1965. She married her husband, Gene R. Monroe, on August 7, 1965. They moved to Lansing and later to St. Johns, MI, caring for numerous youth as foster parents and directors of St. Johns Children's Home, while also raising their daughter.

In 1975, Judy and family moved to Toledo, OH, where she began her favorite role of full-time homemaker. Her interests also included gardening, antiques, photography, genealogy, and volunteering. She served diligently in her local churches, in the areas of missions, Feed your Neighbor, Bible Study

Fellowship, child care, and more. She was part of "Those Gals" estate sale group, and enjoyed the beauty and history of a good antique find. She also earned Master Gardener status through Toledo Botanical Gardens, and

recently became a Read For Literacy volunteer.

Judy first became a grandmother in 1997, and dedicated much of her time thereafter to that role. Her grandchildren will always treasure their memories of 'expeditions' to parks, the lakeshore, and other fun places, as well as gramma's holiday treats and decorations, and cleaning advice.

Judy leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 48 years, Gene; her daughter, Lisa (Keith)

Morrison; stepdaughter,

Alison Monroe; sister, Cindy (Gary) Willenborg; brothers, Ted (Marilyn) Pope, Tony Pope (Toni Lucadello), and Greg Pope; brother-in-law, Larry (Susie) Monroe; grandchildren, Kirah, Joshua, and Chloe Morrison, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; stepmother, Cleda (Casey) Pope; mother-in-law, Margaret (Rusty) Monroe, and brother-in-law, Bill Monroe.

A celebration of Judy's life will be held this fall. Please consult family or go to www.caringbridge.org for

details in the near future. The family suggests that you honor Judy's memory by volunteering in or donating to your local schools, parks, library, church, or hospice facility. Special thanks to the staff, cooks, and Juno, of Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
