Leonard E. Elliott formerly of the Point/Shoreland Community passed away in his residence on Sunday, March 3, 2013, in Temperance, MI at the age of 85. Leonard was born to Frank and Maude (Smith) Elliott in Pontiac, MI on February 13, 1928. He was a proud U.S. Army
Veteran of WWII
for which his country is thankful for his service. Leonard worked as a carpenter for Local #1138 and also for the City of Toledo, Streets, Bridges and Harbor, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, V.F. W. Post #3265 and its Honor Guard, American Legion Post # 110, Union Local # 1138.
Leonard was the epitome of what a man should strive to be in this world. He always soaked up every bit of knowledge he could get in the interest of learning anything and everything. He went to diving school after his time in occupied Germany, where he learned to rescue sunken ships. He went to the University of Toledo to complete coursework in any area that was related to his trades. He continued to learn all the way until he took his last computer course at Bedford High School, when he was 83.
In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by brother, Frank; sisters, Stephanie Hanson and Joyce Frelin, and daughter, Janet Marie Keaton. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Georgia (Shamy) Elliott; son, Gary Elliott Sr.; grandchildren, Gary Elliott Jr., Dan Sunday Jr., Keith Sunday, Ryan Elliott, Janelle Pierce and Adam Elliott; great-grandchildren, Brandon Sunday, Jacob Shiverly, Kiersten Knaggs, Jacob Elliott, Brenden Serres, Daniel Sunday III, Madison Elliott, Blake Elliott, Marek Sunday, Kyley Elliott, Mylee Elliott, Ryan Elliott, Violette Sunday, and half-sister, Judith Lynn Murphy.
Visitation will begin in the David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611, (419.726.1583) on Thursday, March 7, 2013, from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Services will begin on Friday, March 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home with Pastor Cindy Getzinger officiating.
