J. Michael Long, of Whitehouse, Ohio died suddenly at his home on November 28, 2013, according to his sister, Judy (Bryce) Harbaugh, of Toledo.
He was born in Mt. Carroll, Illinois on January 26, 1941, to James and Verna Long. He graduated from Rogers High School and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ohio State University
. While at Rogers, he was a member of the Monroe Street Methodist Church and a leading baritone in its Chapel Choir.
Mr. Long was an Industrial Designer with several large companies, most recently Johns Manville Waterville Plant. He was the designer and architect of advanced fiber production and processing assembly lines, and the holder of numerous patents.
Besides his sister, he is survived by a brother, Jon (Lee), of Teaneck, NJ; two daughters, Sarah Miller of Redmond, Oregon and Anna Long of Corvallis, Oregon; a granddaughter, June; a daughter of his deceased wife, Dee Long, Melissa (Jeff) Connor, and his close friend and constant companion, Bev Herzig.
