Nelson E. ALEXANDER

ALEXANDER Nelson E. Nelson Earl Alexander, 91, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away Thursday, October 13th, 2011. He was born on April 8th, 1920, in Bowling Green, Ohio, to Nelson and Ruth (Wittmer) Alexander. Nelson married Betty Louise Bain on May 12th, 1940. He and Betty lived in Bowling Green until 1960 when they moved to Maumee, Ohio. After 71 years of loving marriage, Betty preceded him in death on July 5th of this year. Nelson is survived by one sister, Mary Brumbaugh; sons, Kevin (Carol) Alexander and Kraig Alexander; grandchildren, Jennifer Waite, Jodi Packard, Nicholas Alexander and Lindsay McKitrick; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold Robert, Theodore and Donald; and sisters, Kathleen Littleton and Julia Farkas. Like so many of his generation, Nelson was shaped by the events of the Great Depression and World War II. During the war, Nelson served in the US Navy in the South Pacific aboard the USS Calamares. Following the war, Nelson attended college on the G-I bill graduating from BGSU with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration in 1950. Following his education, he joined the Strong Electric Corporation, Toledo, Ohio, where he worked until retiring as President in 1982. Nelson was active in his community, church and Masonic organizations. He had a unique sense of humor and brightened the lives of everyone with whom he came in contact. He will be missed by many. Family and friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, on Sunday, October 16th, 2011, from 3-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 17th, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Maumee United Methodist Church.
