Richard "Dick" King
Richard "Dick" King Lake, age 72, of Temperance, MI took his final checkered flag on March 21, 2014 at Kingston Sylvania. He was born June 14, 1941, to Gerald and Thelma (King) Lake in Toledo, Ohio. He attended Sylvania Burnham High School, before enlisting in the U.S. Army
Dick married Carol Ann Messer January 19, 1963, at Augsburg Lutheran in Toledo.
He was employed by the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 33 and remained a strong supporter of organized labor even after retiring in 2000.
Dick loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His life's passions were car racing, camping and being outdoors. He was the founder and president of the Toledo Sand Dancers off-road club, where he devoted countless hours to building and maintaining the club's home race track, Hines Farm Raceway.
He is survived by his
loving wife, Carol; children, Kimberly (Daniel) Schmitt, Kevin Lake, Kendra (Philip) Carroll; grandchildren, Skyler Schmitt, Sierra Schmitt, Bristol Carroll; sister, Judy Blake (FL); brother, David Lake (FL); sister, Carol Lake; sisters-in-law, Linda (Paul) Hubaker, Joyce (Garry) Lake, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Richard in death were his parents; sister, Diana Ewald; brother, Garry Lake; niece, Carrie Lake; nephew, Kenneth Blake; in-laws, Ralph and Irene (Wagner) Messer and brother-in-law, Richard Messer.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 30, 2014, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Urbanski's Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Avenue
Temperance, MI, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6 p.m.
