Robert L. "Bob"

Robert L. "Bob" Kubicz, age 82, of Toledo passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2014, at Lutheran Home of Toledo. He was born March 31, 1931, in Toledo, OH to George and Cecile (Dominiak) Kubicz. Bob served as a Military Policeman in the Army during the Korean War. He was a life member of VFW Post 606 and of the American Legion Post 576. Bob was a master cabinet maker, having been employed by the ETTL Cabinet Company. His building expertise included, but was not limited to, kitchen remodeling, china cabinets, microwave stands and toy boxes.

Bob was a sports enthusiast. He played baseball for Macomber High School as a catcher, with his brother as the pitcher, winning City League Championships in 1948 and 1949. In later years he played in the federation adult baseball leagues around Toledo. He found his true passion when he began umpiring in 1957. For over 50 years, Bob umpired for peewee, high school, college and federation games. During this time, he served as President of Metro Toledo Umpires Association and worked for the City of Toledo scheduling the umpires for youth and adult baseball, softball and basketball. His talents and achievements earned him a place in the Ohio Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame and the Toledo City League Umpires Hall of Fame. Bob was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Bob is survived by his brother, Thomas (Ann "Penny") Kubicz; sister-in-law, Anna Kubicz; favorite nephew, Craig Kubicz; nieces and nephews, Lyn (Donald) Woodbury, Sheldon Foldvary, and Gloria Bailey; 2 great- nephews; 1 great-great-niece and 1 great-great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Norman.

Family and friends may visit Monday from 2-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with members of VFW post 606 concluding the service with Military Honors.
