Robert A. Oberski, 83 years, of Ida, MI, died Wednesday afternoon at Flower Hospital I.C.U., Sylvania, OH. Born October 11, 1930, in Temperance, MI, Robert was the son of Michael and Lillian (Jacobs) Oberski.

A 1949 Ida High School graduate, he was a three sport athlete. He served with the U.S. Air Force from August 1950, to June 1951. He married Loretta Billmayier on November 24, 1951, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ida. They were married for over 60 years. Loretta died November 16, 2012. Robert was a purchasing agent for Monroe County Road Commission for over 40 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Temperance, Ida Public School Board Member, Raisinville Township Board Trustee, Monroe County Ambulance Committee, Past Commanders of Lynn C. Weeman Post 514, Parish Council at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Ida, Knights of Columbus Fr. Stanley Bowers Council and the Raisinville Township Planning Commission. He was awarded the Minuteman Award and 25 years recognition for being on the township board. Robert enjoyed University of Michigan football games, woodworking, playing Aggravation, the cottage in Coldwater, traveling, deer hunting in Rose City, telling jokes, bird watching and working at St. Josephs, Ida fish dinners.

Survivors include two sons, Mark (Leigh Ann), Douglas (Tammy); three daughters, Renee (Stan) Walentowski, Rita (Jerry "Jug") Scheib, Pamela (Scott) Geiger; a brother, Richard (Vail); a sister, Marilyn (Dick) Halker; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loretta; two sisters, Arlene Ostachnowicz, Sharon Yovanov and brother, Paul.

Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Sunday, from 1-8 p.m. He will lie in state at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Monday from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Fr. Don LaCuesta will officiate. Cremation will follow. Burial of the cremains will be in St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery, Ida at a later date.

Memorial contributions for Mr. Oberski may be made to Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, The American Kidney Fund and Knights of Columbus.
