Robert H. Pochadt died comfortably, and surrounded by family, on November 7, 2013, at Swan Creek Retirement Village in Toledo, less than a month before his 92nd birthday on December 2.
Robert was a respected local businessman, who numbered many area residents, and a few celebrities, among his customers and former employees. He started his business in 1946, and eventually moved the store, Robert's Men's Wear, to downtown Sylvania in 1972. Robert sold his business on December 31, 1987, after 41 years of hard working commitment to his clients.
A lifelong Toledo resident, he attended Devilbiss High School, where he excelled in middle distance track, and developed a lifelong interest in many sports and tasteful, presentable attire. Robert was active in many local business and social activities, including Meals on Wheels. He was also a member the Toledo Club and the First United Methodist Church, Sylvania. He especially enjoyed the company of many friends, as well as traveling and following college football.
Robert was a proud veteran of World War II
, having served in the South Pacific and later Japan. He loved to tell interesting stories of his day-to-day experiences in military life.
Robert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley (Kasch) Pochadt; sons, Robert Jr. (Charlene) of Holland, PA and Todd (Ruth) of Sylvania; grandchildren, Stephen of Westchester, PA and Kendra of Westchester OH. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Marie Pochadt; brother, Carl Pochadt, and grandson, Andrew Pochadt, all of Toledo.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Saturday, November 9, in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 10, at First United Methodist Church, 7000 Erie St., Sylvania, with the Rev. Larry Clark presiding.
Memorials are suggested to Swan Creek Retirement Village or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
