Romuald Francis "Duke"
Romuald Francis "Duke" Snyder, age 87, of Bowling Green, Ohio died on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Woodhaven Health Care under the care of Heartland Hospice. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 7, 1926, to Martin and Frances (Solark) Snyder.
Rom was a graduate of Libbey High School, where he played football and basketball. He also played for CYO. After high school he joined the Marine Corps and was a part of the Invasion of Iwo Jima, during WWII. Rom
retired from Libbey-Owens-Ford after 38 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee Ohio; lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. Rom enjoyed bowling, swimming and playing euchre, pinochle and bridge. He especially liked spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rom is survived by his
loving wife of 66 years, Vivian (Schwind); daughter, Jackie Porter; son, Jerry (Darlene); grandchildren, Ryan (Jeanne), Matt
(Brittany Sipan) and Brad (Nicole Anctil) Porter, Dustin (Jackie) and Brandon (Jessica) Snyder, and Lacy (Jayme) Cox; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Lucy Porter, Kayla and Ava Snyder; and Claire, Margaret and Issac Cox; son-in-law, Greg Horton. In addition to his parents, Rom was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandy Snyder-Horton and brother, Norbert "Snug" Snyder.
Friends and family may visit at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio on Saturday, January 18, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. with prayers beginning at 12:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maumee at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 3450 West Central Ave., Suite 230, Toledo, Ohio 43606 or St. Joseph Catholic Church 104 W.
