Ronald
Ronald "Ron" Shell of Conover died Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born April 18, 1940, he was the son of the late Roy J. Shell and Helen Marie Beaudry Shell.
Ronald was a fantastic musician, who played the saxophone, flute and piano. He was active in Senior bowling both at Pin Station and Colonial Lanes. Ron worked 34 years for United Technologies- Pratt & Whitney. Ron worked as a monthly greeter at Catawba Regional Hospice House and an Offeratory Counter at St. Aloysius. He was greatly looking forward to the birth of a great-granddaughter, Jaiden Knippel in January.
In addition to his wife of 52 years, Antoinette "Toni" Schneider Shell of the home; two daughters, Laurie A. Knippel and husband Michael of Peachtree City, GA and Christy S. Yasi and husband Michael of Cedar Park, TX; two sons, John D. Shell and wife Ruth of Round Rock, TX and Thomas J. Shell and wife Linda of Austin, TX; a sister, Judith A. Kerl and husband Jon K. of Toledo, OH; four grand-children, Michael J. Knippel, Jr, Ryan P. Knippel, Todd Z. Shell, Connor C. Yasi; great-grandson, Ethan Knippel; a granddaughter, Sarah Yasi, and soon to be born, great-granddaughter, Jaiden Knippel survive him.
The funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2012, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory. Father Bob Farris will officiate.
Inurnment will be at St. Aloysius Columbarium.
The family will receive friends 10:00-10:45 a.m., one hour prior at the church.
Pallbearers include John and Tom Shell, Joseph and Ryan Knippel, Ralph Dutcher and Jerry Kowalski.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Sisters of Maryvale, 2522 June Bug Road Vale, NC 28168, Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road Newton, NC 28658 or St. Aloysius Priest Retirement Fund, 921 2nd Street, NE Hickory, NC 28601.

Perry and I remember all the nice times we had with him and Toni as our first neighbors and then in NC. We enjoyed his music when he was playing in our area. He had a great retirement party. Many special memories.
