Vernon C. Carstensen, age 85, of Port Clinton, Ohio, and formerly of Rossford, OH, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Ottawa County Riverview Nursing Home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 28, 1928, to Clarence and Helen (Seling) Carstensen in Perrysburg, OH. Vernon proudly enlisted in the US Army
Airforce from 1946 to 1952 where he served during WWII
and the Korean War
. After being honorably discharged, Vernon went to work for Libbey Owens Ford Glass Company as a glass cutter. He was a lifetime member of the Northwood VFW
Post 2984 and enjoyed spending time with family. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be dearly missed.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth (Schmaus) Carstensen, in 2012; sons, David and Richard Carstensen; brother, Harold Carstensen; sister, Mabel Friess, and son in-law, Ray Lehsten. Surviving are his children, Dennis (Diane), John, and Robert Carstensen, Judy Lehsten, and Dawn Smith; brothers, Robert and James Carstensen, and sister-in-law, Margaret Carstensen. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Rd. on Sunday, September 29, 2013, from 2 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013, in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Craig officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg with Military Honors provided by the Northwood VFW Post 2984. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Riverview Nursing home staff and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the special care given to Vernon.
