Virginia M. Cortez, 84, of Toledo, peacefully left this world bound for heaven on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, with her family at her side. She was born in Toledo, OH on May 20, 1928, to the late Ralph and Hilda (Gousebeck) Macias.
Virginia work for 25 years as a Medical Secretary for Mercy St. Vincent's Medical Center retiring in 1988. All those who loved Virginia knew that her family meant everything to her for there was no greater joy then the time she spent with them. She had a special title she received and was known and called "Club Mom." Cooking, crocheting, quilting, sewing, needlepoint gave her great enjoyment but could not compare to the joy she experienced when she traveled with her daughter and her family.
Surviving are her beloved children, Dorothy (Allen) Golden, Helen (Joe) Miller, John Cortez, Jr., Robert Cortez, Gloria Flores, Michael Cortez and Stephen Cortez; sister, Elizabeth Macias; 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; along with many loving nieces and nephews. She was reunited with her parents; loving husband, John L. Cortez, Sr.; children, Juanita Cortez, Catherine Cortez, Elizabeth "Liz" Cortez-Demecs and Louie Cortez, and sister, Gloria Ferko.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 6, 2013, 2:00-8:00 p.m. at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611 (419.726.1583) with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that same evening and on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 728 S. St. Clair St., Toledo, OH 43609. Funeral Mass will begin 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Church with Father Richard E. Notter officiating with interment in Calvary Cemetery.
