Warren C. Schoonover, 89, of south Toledo passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the University of Toledo Medical Center as a result of an automobile accident. Warren was born in Lima, Ohio, on December 21, 1923, to Campsey and Evelyn Schoonover.

Warren served in the U.S. Army infantry during WW II from 1943-1947 and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was wounded in action and upon his return to active duty was captured and was a POW until the end of the war.

Warren was a member of American Legion Post #531 and the VFW.

After his service Warren worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years as a letter carrier, retiring in 1986. After retirement he loved to spend his time golfing or with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Dean and Don. Warren is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Leona; son, Robert (Shannon) Schoonover; grandchildren, Elizabeth Desloover, Michael, David, and Hallie Schoonover, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 3636 South Detroit, Toledo, Ohio 43614. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials in Warren's name may be given to the church.
