William R. Santus, age 88, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg surrounded by his family. He was born on August 6, 1924, in Vanderclift, PA to John and Josephine (Matusek) Santus. He was employed in the family business, the Santus Café and his father's construction business, Santus Construction where he helped to build many homes in Rossford. Bill later went to work for Libbey Owens Ford Glass Company where he retired from the Rossford plant after 32 years. Bill proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII
and was awarded the Bronze Star
and Purple Heart
. Bill was a long time parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church where he was a member of the Holy Cross Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Rossford Eagles, Rossford Senior Club and the Rossford American Legion Post 533. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Surviving is his loving wife of 66 years, Annie; daughters, Darleen Boldt and Lynn Santus; sons, William J. "Buddy" (Diane) Santus, Dennis Santus, and Todd (Donna) Santus; sister, Hattie Peterson; 10 grandchildren, Shane, Josh, Kari, Brittany, Kyle, Elizabeth, Beau, Olivia, Dane, and Rex. Also surviving are 8 great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Trudi Benjamin, Vera Vonck, and Frances Chvala; brothers, John, Albert, and Rudy Santus.
Family and friends may visit at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Rd. on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. where recitation of the Rosary by the Knights of Columbus will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 628 Lime City Rd. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Kent Kaufman officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg with full Military Honors provided by the Northwood VFW
