JoAnn Porter Obituary

JoAnn E. Porter

JoAnn E. Porter passed away peacefully on April 4, 2017 at the age of 92. She was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of William and Clara Peters, and younger sister of Marge Sayre. She was married to John O. Evans with whom she had four children. Later she married James F. Porter and moved to Darien, Connecticut, where together they continued to raise their five children. She was a talented woman with many interests. She loved gardening; played tennis but excelled at bowling and golf; was a good cook, passionate bridge player, seamstress, and an "attention to detail" hostess of wonderful parties for her many friends and family. She and her husband, Jim, traveled the world, and loved sailing "Winsome" on Long Island Sound. A favorite picture of the grandchildren was of her riding a camel in Morocco. At 45, she began a successful career in real estate. After her husband's death, she divided her time between Connecticut and Hilton Head Island. She was predeceased by her son, Gregory and survived by five children, Connie Evans, Gail Quinn, Margie Rains, John Evans, and Lynn Robbins; eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Her final resting place will be at Toledo Memorial Park with her parents and son. A get-together with family is being planned for this summer to celebrate her life.
