Donald R. FRASER

FRASER Donald R. Donald R. Fraser, 83, of Fort Myers, Florida and Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away on December 28, 2010 after a short illness in Fort Myers. Don was born on May 21, 1927, the day Lindbergh landed in Paris, to Malcolm W. and Elizabeth L. (Ross) Fraser. He was graduated from Maumee High School in three years in order to volunteer for service in World War II. He volunteered on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and served in the Army in Italy and the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations until his discharge. Don attended The Ohio State University where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Don earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Toledo. He enrolled in the George Washington University to pursue his law degree. After his graduation from George Washington, Don practiced patent law in Washington, D.C. for several years until his return to Toledo to join his father's patent law practice. He was a member of The Toledo Bar Association, Wood County Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, American Bar Association and the International Trademark Association. Don served in the Ohio State Legislature as a member of the House of Representatives from 1968 until 1972, representing a portion of Lucas County including the City of Sylvania. He was also an adjunct professor at the University of Toledo Law School for ten years, teaching patent and intellectual property law. He was appointed by President Ford to serve as Assistant Solicitor (Patents) of the United States Department of the Interior during 1975 and 1976. Later, he held a number of positions in both the Lucas and Wood County Republican Party organizations. Mr. Fraser was also active in many civic activities and had been a member of the Press Club, Carranor Hunt & Polo Club, The Toledo Club, Belmont Country Club, as well as the University Club and Kenwood Golf and Country Club in Washington, D.C. He was a former member of the Reynolds Corners International Rotary Club and a member of Christ Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. Don served on a number of Boards over the years including the board of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion Toledo Post No. 335 and served as President of the Navy League for two years. Don married Caroline Ann Pilliod on August 16, 1952 and she survives. In addition, he is survived by his son, Donald R. Fraser Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandson, Michael L. Fraser; granddaughter, Erin F. Slattery; sister, Margaret F. (Thomas C.) Walbridge, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Marguerite (Megg) Slattery and a brother, Robert Fraser. Don practiced patent and intellectual property law for well over 50 years and at one time said he wanted to be the "longest practicing patent lawyer in the country". He was presently the senior named partner in the intellectual property law firm of Fraser, Clemens, Martin and Miller, LLC in Perrysburg, Ohio. Friends will be received from 4 - 8 P.M. on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary, Perrysburg, Ohio. A memorial Mass will begin at 10:15 A.M. on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front Street, in Perrysburg. Burial will be private. An informal reception for friends at Carranor Hunt and Polo Club in Perrysburg will follow the service.
