Raymond Overy Obituary

Raymond Charles Overy

10/8/1940-6/2/2017

Raymond C. Overy, age 76, of Perrysburg, passed away on June 2, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was born on October 8, 1940 in Toledo, Ohio to Earl Overy and Cecilia (Brainard) Overy. He attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1958. He served his country joining the US Air Force and married Dorothy M. Bernritter in June of 1962. He began his career in the automotive industry becoming a tool and die maker at City Machine and Tool. He retired from the Ford Automotive Stamping plant in Maumee. Ray spent a lot of his time coaching, and ensuring that kids had the opportunity to play sports. Ray was integral in managing the equipment needs of all the sports programs at OLPH, years after his kids had grown and moved on to high school. Ray was very active in his parish and always willing to lend a helping hand. He never failed to support his children whether it be a dance recital, baseball, football, softball, basketball, cheerleading, band or choir concerts. After retiring Ray began a new phase in his life supporting all his grandkids as they played, sang and danced their way through school. He could always be counted on for a ride whether it be to the local fields in town, traveling to Cooperstown, Florida or any field or stadium near or far.

Ray's life revolved around his family. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Dorothy and enjoyed trips to Alaska, Hawaii and San Francisco. Ray was an avid bowler and sometimes participated in 5 leagues in one season. Ray will always be remembered as the sideline supporter and someone you could go to whenever you needed to talk or get some advice.

Ray is survived by sons, Jeffrey (Doreen) Overy, Kevin (Julie) Overy; daughters, Cathlene (Todd) Giesige, and Cristine (Dennis) Schmenk; grandchildren, Ryan (Jamie) Overy, Breck (Mason) Smith, Blake (Jessica) Schmenk, Alec (Morgan) Schmenk, Dalton Giesige, Devon Giesige, Logan Giesige, Austin Overy, Amanda, Overy, Brandi Overy; great-grandchildren, Carter Loss, Brantley Schmenk, Audrey Samson; sister, Peggy Brochu; brother-in-law, Al Grindle and many other friends and extended family.

Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy; his parents, Earl and Cecilia Overy; and sister, LaDonna Kohler.

Reynolds Rd., Toledo, on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The American Legion Vernon McCune Post #132 will have a service at 6:45 p.m., with a Scripture Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin in the mortuary at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, June 13, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Dear Cris and Family,

So sorry to hear of you Dad's passing. I remember him being at all the games supporting Blake and Perrysburg athletics. Such a nice guy to talk with who was devoted to family and serving others. He will be dearly missed.

Sincere condolences,

June 15, 2017

Losing a parent is truly sad. There is a hole in the place they filled. Time lessens the lose but nothing replaces it. My prayers to you and your family.
