PHILLIPS
Robert E.
Robert E. Phillips, 89, of Pataskala, passed away September 20, 2012. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio of Charles and Nina Phillips. Robert graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and in 1947, he married the love of his life, Joan Wright Phillips.
He worked as a sales rep for Mahoning Culvert and Kaiser Steel for a number of years after which he established Phillips Enterprises in Chardon, Ohio. Robert was elected Geauga County Engineer and served six years in that capacity.
After he retired, Robert served in the Peace Corp. in Tanzania for a year and a half; he spent the next year as a civil engineer in American Samoa. He had been a professional engineer and surveyor. Robert was a member of the VFW. Robert and Joan spent years in Florida where he enjoyed his sailing. In 2009, they moved to the Columbus area where their daughter resides.
Robert is survived by Joan; his wife of 64 years, his daughter, Christine, and two grandchildren, Matthew and Caitlin.
There is no public service. Robert will be interred at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery in Sylvania. Arrangements were entrusted to Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania, OH.
