We had the pleasure of getting to know Pat a little as faculty members in the BGSU Department of Popular Culture, and admired her friendliness and dedication to the field. She will be greatly missed. Our sincere condolences to her family.

Pat was the founding editor of _Clues: A Journal of Detection_ and served as such for approximately 20 years, providing one of the few venues for serious scholarship on the mystery genre. We're proud to have continued this aspect of the multifaceted popular culture work of her and her husband, Ray.

As a professor and media historian, I will always be grateful for what Pat did to make popular culture acceptable at the scholarly level. A life well lived, a woman who truly made difference.

I always looked forward to seeing both Pat and Ray at the annual Pop Culture meetings. Her first question was often, "did you bring pictures of the children?" I will never forget her kindness, fire, and encouragement.

Browne Family, I knew your mom and dad from working at the Press a short time. Before that, I was a student at BGSU and loved my popular culture courses. Two wonderful people that created so much.

I received my master's degree at BGSU in the late 1980's and took some of your Dad's classes, and he often spoke proudly of your mom's selfless support. What a rich legacy they leave behind, paving the way for others who choose "unpopular" studies. My sincere condolences to each of you.
