Amalia "Lia" Wehrmeister, 91, of south Toledo passed away on October 31, 2012, at Heartland of Waterville. Lia was born in Slovenia, moving to the United States following World War II. She met and fell in love with her husband of 57 years, John, while he was stationed in Austria. Always full of energy, she will be remembered for her sense of humor, kindness, and intelligence. Lia was an avid gardener, excellent cook and loved music, in particular opera and Handel's Messiah. She was a longtime member of the former St. James Catholic Church in the old South End.
Surviving are her sons, Charles Wehrmeister of Salem, VA and Jack (Wendy) Wehrmeister of Monclova, OH; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Zachary Wehrmeister, Kristin (Dave) Fahy, Robert (Regina) Wehrmeister, Alyssa Wehrmeister and Amy and Jason Meagher. She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Hunter, Owen, Kayla, Lori and Amalia.
