Beatrice Martin Obituary

Beatrice Blanche Plante Martin, 92, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, to join her husband Paul Victor as they continue their journey together through the lakes and rivers of the heavens above. Having only been apart for 11 months, they will have some catching up to do and be shoving off in no time.

Bea was born on November 17, 1920, and raised in Lake Linden, Michigan, one of several mining communities of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. This rugged area required one to be strong, willful and determined. These attributes, along with her beauty and spirit for adventure is surely what attracted them to each other and led to their 71 years of marriage.

Their early adult life was committed to raising 5 children in south Toledo. Bea and Paul's adventuresome spirit and passion to be on the water led them to their involvement in boating and the boating community for the majority of their adult life. Their many dear friendships developed through their involvement with Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, the Maumee River Yacht Club and Ladies Auxiliary and Bay View Yacht Club.

They spent their 60's and 70's living the dream of a healthy retirement cruising the vast and beautiful waterways of the Great Lakes and making new friends to share their numerous life stories with.

Bea was preceded in death by her only sibling, Emil "Porter" Plante who passed at the age of 86. She is survived by her 5 children, David (Susan) Martin, Victoria (John) Hudson, Steven Martin, Douglas (Janice) Martin, Richard Martin; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave, on Friday, February 1, 2013, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
